Jackson Police Department swears in 2 new officers
JACKSON, Tenn. — An important swearing-in ceremony was held Thursday morning at a local police department.
The Jackson Police Department swore in two new officers who completed the apprenticeship program. According to the department, the program is registered with the state and designed for applicants ages 18 to 21.
JPD Deputy Chief Gary Benton shares that the apprentices go through every thing that a police officer goes through when training except for going on the street.
“They’ve been through the firearms, they’ve been through the driving, the taser, defensive tactics, they’ve sat on the front desk and wrote reports so, once they partner up with their field training officer, they’re going to be so far in front of the curve that they will probably zoom through the FTO program and be on the streets sooner,” said Deputy Chief Benton.
This ceremony has brought the Jackson Police department force up to 207 police officers.
