Jackson Fire Dept. invites community to join nationwide tribute for fallen firefighters

JACKSON, Tenn. — This week, the Jackson Fire Department is joining fire departments across the country in “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.”

A station will glow red each night as a heartfelt tribute to the firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty.

The department invites the Jackson community to join them, whether by lighting homes red, sharing a moment of silence, or simply reflecting on the sacrifice of those who ran toward danger to protect others.

“We’re going to be lighting up each one of our seven stations on an individual night to include our fire administration building as well. [It’s] In honor of those firefighters who have given their lives to protect those of the community,” said LaTrell Billingsley, Jackson fire marshal.

In recognition of the sacrifices made by these heroes, the president of the United States will request that the American flag be flown at half-staff on all federal buildings on May 4.
