Want to make mom happy for Mother’s Day? New survey says ditch the flowers
JACKSON, Tenn. — Forget the flowers: A new survey shows 97% of moms want deep family connections this Mother’s Day.
One expert genealogist offers tips to help mom discover family stories and preserve traditions.
A recent survey from Ancestry, the global leader in family history, found that traditional gifts, such as flowers, aren’t actually what most moms want.
In fact, an overwhelming 97% of mothers in the U.S. say they would cherish a gift that brings their family closer together over a traditional gift like flowers.
Ancestry Genealogist Crista Cowan shares how people can build deeper bonds with mom this Mother’s Day and the importance of connecting over family heritage and traditions.
“It’s a perfect time to have a conversation with her — to ask her about herself and her stories and her memories. Maybe sit down and allow her to flip through that family photo album and reminisce a little bit. That connection is, I think, more important to her than anything else” said Cowan.
95% of mothers surveyed say they value a gift that helps them pass on family traditions to their children.
This desire is closely linked to a striking 93% of mothers who wish they knew more about the prior generations of women in their family who paved the way for them and their children.
