Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Doughten
Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Doughten, 64, of Union City, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born on January 19, 1961, in Hayti, Missouri, she was the cherished daughter of the late Omer and Geneva (Turnbow) Higgins.
Elizabeth was a devoted wife to Matt Doughten, whom she married on August 23, 1997, and together they shared 27 wonderful years. She was a loving mother to her son, Joey W. Meeks of Martin, and her daughter, Mindy Meeks of Union City. Known affectionately as Nana, she adored her six grandsons: Harley Davis, Joey I. Meeks, and Cody Meeks, all of Martin; Timothy Davis and Jesse Davis, both of South Fulton; and Michael Meeks of San Antonio, Texas.
Elizabeth was a dedicated personal care assistant at Etherige House in Union City, where she worked for 21 years. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She found joy in gardening and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her husband, children, grandsons, and her four sisters: Frances Bell (Harold), Betty Dutton (Richard), Teresa Roberson (Jack), all of Union City, and Carol McDaniel (Dion) of Rives. She is also survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Carolyn Doughten of Troy.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Bryson, and her brother, Tony Higgins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Rives, officiated by Brother Truitt Cockrell. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
