Lila Sue Young

Lila Sue Young, age 98, of Jackson, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 2, 2025 at Charter Senior Living in Jackson, TN.
She was born in Gibson County on August 31, 1926, the fifth of eight children, to the late Ezra David and Sula Elizabeth Loynes. She was educated at Fairview Elementary School and North Side High School.

Mrs. Young’s first job was at Southern Dry Cleaners during World War II. When International Paper Company (formerly Jackson Edward Bag Company) opened its factory, she was one of the first employees, continuing until her retirement. After retirement, she worked for John E. Parker at Parker’s until the store closed.

In addition to her years of employment, Mrs. Young was a homemaker. She loved working in her flower beds and garden. She enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables fresh from the garden. She loved cooking for her family. Mrs. Young had the gift of service and hospitality. She will be fondly remembered by friends and neighbors who were recipients of her cakes, pies, and meals. She was an avid reader and loved receiving new books. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and quilting. She made a quilt for each child and grandchild when they married, and for each great grandchild when he/she was born.

Mrs. Young had a strong Christian faith. She had been a faithful member of Cotton Grove Baptist Church until the last few years when illness prevented her from attending church. She continued her Bible readings and “attended” several church services each Sunday via television.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Robert Glynn Young. Her brothers and sisters preceded her in death also: Sadie Sanders, James Loynes, Johnnie Loynes, Dorothy Piercey, Herbert Loynes, Otis Loynes, and Jerry Loynes.

Mrs. Young is survived by her children Linda (Alan) Johnsey of Glendale, AZ and Randy (Cindy) Young of Fort Myers, FL. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jennifer Thorson of Phoenix, AZ, Christi (Larry) Piano of Surprise, AZ, Devilon (Stephanie) Young of Jackson,TN, and Mandy Carter of Fort Myers, FL. She has six great grandchildren, Robert Piano and Alison Piano, of Surprise, AZ, Jackson Young and Ava Grace Young of Jackson, TN, and Conner Carter and Kara Carter of Fort Myers, FL. She is also survived by devoted friends, Brenda and Steve Waynick of Jackson, TN.
