Ribbon cutting held to celebrate new Chester County agriculture center

HENDERSON, Tenn. — A ribbon cutting was held Tuesday in Chester County for a new agriculture center.

The center is at the fairgrounds in Henderson where the West Tennessee Fair will be held in October. The structure can be rented out and isn’t limited to agricultural events. It can host arts and crafts fairs, flea markets and more.

This ribbon cutting took place on the first day of 4H Ag Days. The UT Extension of Chester County hosts this two-day event in partnership with local schools to educate students on agriculture.

Tuesday, Chester County Middle School visited to explore six stations including a mobile dairy classroom, a rainfall simulator, farm equipment and animals.

“It’s really hands on, it gets them excited. I went to school to be in agriculture, I work in my field so the future of agriculture is these kids and so, if we don’t do things like this, we’re not gonna have a future, you know? So, that’s what excites me,” said Steve Rickman, county director for Chester County UT Extension director.

Rickman shares that there are more jobs in agriculture than any other field across the nation, not just locally. His hope is to get kids interested in the field, which includes everything from food science to Ag business.
