Former teachers, students gather for Pope Elementary closing house
JACKSON, Tenn. — We say goodbye to a historic school as they transition into a brand new building.
Earlier Tuesday, teachers and students from all generations came together to honor the legacy of Pope Elementary School by celebrating it’s past.
The school originally opened it’s doors back in 1909 and has been located at 1071 Old Humboldt Road ever since. Attendees were able to reflect on cherished memories with their former teachers and fellow students.
“It’s been really neat to see people and students that I’ve taught in the past and then some people that went to school here in the 70s and 80s you know? Just glad to walk down memory lane and see different people that they went to school with,” said Laura Walker, librarian for Pope School.
The new school is being constructed at 1081 Ashport Road in northwest Jackson and will be open by June of this year.
