Pediatric physician talks swimming safety reminders ahead of summer
JACKSON, Tenn. — Before making that big splash to cool down this summer, here’s some things you should consider.

We spoke with Pediatric Emergency Physician Rudy Kink with the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital on some swimming tips.
He shared that guardians or parents should always have one adult supervising children. This person should provide full undivided attention while the children are in the water.

Another reminder is that life jackets are important no matter the level of the swimmer.
One more reminder is to never jump into water if you can’t see the bottom and if there’s a person you can hit.
“Wade pools–we always fall into that nice little comfort zone that there’s not that much water. These are typically reserved for toddlers be careful toddlers can slip, fall and they can be under water for like a minute or two. They can have injuries from these submergence,” said Kink.
He also reminds parents and guardians the importance of applying sunscreen and keeping children hydrated during water play days.
