Educator of the Week: Susan Barrow

It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Susan Barrow is a business education teacher at Milan High School.

“My mother is a teacher and she’s like my biggest inspiration, so I just kinda followed in her footsteps,” Barrow said.

Barrow has been teaching 11 years, with this being her second year at Milan High School.

“Favorite part of teaching is just getting to interact with the students, seeing them learn and grow,” said Barrow.

Barrow explains that career technical education classes are based on a “hands on” approach to learning, encouraging students to learn by doing.

“This year, here at Milan, we’ve opened up our business in the CTE department, and so we are making shirts, and so the students are actually physically getting to get in there and design and create and print shirts,” she said.

Barrow encourages anyone seeking a career in education to recognize that the career path is very rewarding.

She also shares that her nomination for Educator of the Week felt out of the blue.

“Very surprised, I was not expecting it at all, very surprised and shocked,” she said.

Barrow is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
