Memorial service held for National Police Week, mayors make proclamations
JACKSON, Tenn. — In honor of National Police Week, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson Police Department hosts their annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service.
This year’s memorial service was held at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office early Friday morning. The event served as a way to honor and remember the officers who served and sacrificed for their community.
During the ceremony, proclamations were issued by both the county and city mayors.
“Now, therefore, we, A.J. Massey, mayor of Madison County, and Scott Conger, mayor of the city of Jackson, do hereby proclaim the week of May 11th through 17th as National Police Week, and Friday, May 16th, 2025 as National Law Enforcement Memorial Day,” said Mayor Massey.
As part of the ceremony, officers from each department accompanied the loved ones of fallen officers to lay a rose before the remembrance wreath.
“I think it’s very important to honor their loved ones, and during National Police Week, or Police Officer Memorial Week, we’re able to do that by pulling everybody together in one event to be able to honor them,” said Jeff Wall, director of operations for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
We spoke with one young man who reminisces on the memories he shared with his late grandfather, Sergeant Terry Stowe.
“He was a lot. For me, he was like a father to me and he taught me the ropes of manhood early. We would always watch boxing or basketball, and it was always a thing between us was basketball and football,” said Jordan Smith, family of Sgt. Stowe.
Flags were flown at half staff and JPD Aviation conducted a fly over to honor the fallen officers.
