Jackson sees structure damage, power outages from severe weather
JACKSON, Tenn. — A close call was caught on camera earlier Tuesday after severe storms swept through West Tennessee.
Video shared to Facebook by the Tennessee Highway Patrol shows powerful winds tearing the roof off the nearby Kirkland’s Warehouse on Smith Lane.
Troopers and staff at the THP’s Jackson district office in west Madison County were seeking shelter when they captured the incident.
A few minutes later, emergency crews were out to assess the damage. No injuries have been reported.
Due to the storms, many Jackson Energy Authority (JEA) utility customers were left without power, with as many as 3,000 people reporting outages at the height of the storm.
As of 9:20 p.m., JEA’s outage tracker shows that an estimated 59 customers in Jackson are still without power.
Leaders with JEA say tree limbs have ended up in lines or, in some cases, trees are leaning into lines in several areas of the JEA system. Crews are continuing to locate and safely clear lines so that breakers can be closed and power can be restored.
