Jackson Central Merry middle, high school receives $5,000 grant
JACKSON, Tenn. — Thursday, Jackson Central-Merry Middle School and JCM High School received a special library grant.
They were among 220 schools from 38 states across the country to receive a $5,000 grant through the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.
The competitive grant money will go towards increasing the library’s nonfiction section, which is needed by teachers to support their curriculum.
They’ll also be increasing their collection of books that students find interesting such as graphic novels and fiction works.
School leaders say the JCM Cougars are currently restoring the “roar” in academics, arts and athletics.
“Part of that restoration is fostering literacy throughout our school, a culture of reading, a culture of information literacy, a culture of knowledge and so these funds will be spent for that purpose,” said Carrie Prewitt, school library media specialist.
JCM accepts donations of books as long as they fit in their collection and with policies. Prewitt shares that they would be happy to accept donations to increase the number of books in their library.
