McNairy County mayor speaks out following what he calls a lack of response by FEMA

SELMER, Tenn. — McNairy County Mayor Larry Smith was joined by Senator Page Walley and Tennessee State Representative Ron Gant Friday.

(L to R): Mayor Smith is joined by State Representative Ron Gant and Senator Page Walley during a meeting.

They met at the McNairy County Courthouse to speak out about what they say is a lack of response and participation and assistance from FEMA.

Mayor Smith says the county is still struggling to recover from the storm damage and says FEMA has provided no assistance and help in getting the county recovered from the tornado.

“It’s easier to blame somebody else than it is to take responsibility. You know, I don’t know why the city has not bid out the debris removal to this point and we’re 53 days in but they simply they have not,” said Mayor Smith.

Smith says the purpose of the event was to try and bring to light what leaders say is a lack of help from FEMA.
