Town of Huntingdon honors veterans with Memorial Day event

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — Huntingdon residents gathered Monday to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

People in the town of Huntingdon gathered at the Huntington Middle School gym to remember and honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in the U.S. Military.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States. It’s observed on the last Monday of May.

“Thomas Park is actually where they’d board back in the day. They’d board the train leaving, so it’s a great place to have it. We don’t need a long weekend, we don’t need a day, we just need to honor–year long–what the soldiers have done for us,” said Chad Edwards, mayor of Huntingdon.

Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States.
