Ronald Bertron Mitchell

Ronald Bertron Mitchell, affectionately known to all as “Ronnie,” passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the age of 81.

Ronnie was born on June 3, 1943, in Bemis, Tennessee, where he was raised and spent many of his formative years. His roots in Bemis remained an important part of his identity throughout his life.

He dedicated much of his professional career to South Central Bell, which later became AT&T, where he served as a respected supervisor. Ronnie was known for his strong work ethic, dependable leadership, and his unwavering commitment to those he worked with.

Outside of work, Ronnie was truly in his element in the great outdoors. A passionate and skilled outdoorsman, he found joy and peace in hunting — a pastime he pursued with unmatched enthusiasm. Over the years, Ronnie mentored countless young hunters, generously sharing his knowledge, patience, and love for nature. For many, he was more than a mentor — he was a lifelong friend and guiding influence.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Bertron and Irene White Mitchell; his sister, Inez Nance; his brother, Charles Mitchell; as well as two beloved wives, Mable Reams Mitchell and Linda Williams Mitchell. He carried their memories with him always.

He is survived by his sons, Martin Mitchell (Patrice) and Keith Mitchell (Kym); grandchildren, Martin (Marty) Mitchell, Jr. (Katie), Micah Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, and Kenley Mitchell; and great granddaughter, Carter Jo Sellers. He is also survived by his sisters, Anita Wadley and Deborah Mitchell.

Ronnie will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, and his deep love for the outdoors and the people lucky enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the stories told around campfires, in the lessons passed from one hunter to another, and in the lives he touched through quiet kindness and enduring friendship.

A service to celebrate the life of Ronnie Mitchell will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Tom Stallings officiating.
