Madison Co. Storm Siren Update
Severe weather is once again threatening the West Tennessee area, but Madison County EMA leaders said with the exception of the siren at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, all of them in the city and county are ready to go. EMA leaders said they have been busy repairing technical problems with the repeater that activates the 47 sirens scattered across the city and county. It has been repaired and is back at full power after an apparent lightning strike damaged the system. Officials said storm sirens are fine if you’re caught outdoors during a storm, but there are other ways to get emergency weather information as well. “First thing they need to do is go ahead and get them a weather radio, sign up for text messages on your phone, you can get that from the National Weather Service, you can get that from The Weather Channel,” said Marty Clements, EMA director for Madison County. Clements said you can also monitor storm activity by television, radio or the internet.
