Gibson County man pleads guilty to 2 counts of Rape of a Child

PRESS RELEASE FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY GENERAL FREDERICK H. AGEE:

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Today, in the Circuit Court of Gibson County, defendant Carroll Butler, 44, of Rutherford, Tennessee, pled guilty to Two Counts of Rape of a Child.

Carroll Butler

With the consultation of the Victims, their family, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the plea was entered and approved by the Honorable Clayburn Peeples, Circuit Court Judge, whose official approval is required under Tennessee Law. This plea closes the case for avenues of appeal, relieving the Victims and their family from years of reliving the heinous crimes perpetrated upon them.

The Defendant will serve 25 years at 100%, or 300 months, in the Tennessee Department of Correction and be required to Register as a Sex Offender and be strictly monitored by Community Supervision for Life upon his release.

The Defendant is now convicted of sexually abusing two of his juvenile family members in prior years.

“We commend the survivors for being strong enough to report their abuse, after years of forced silence. We understand how difficult it was for them to come forward about a family member who betrayed their trust in the most horrible way and seeing this matter through until the end. We also want to thank the Rutherford Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for their hard work on a very sensitive case. Our Office is extremely focused on prosecuting violent crimes, especially those involving children. If the Defendant survives over two decades of prison, he will be strictly monitored for the rest of his life.”

– Frederick H. Agee, District Attorney General.

“This case shows the impact of collaboration and determination by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and our local and state partners to hold accountable an individual who preyed upon innocent children. Child cases are some of the most difficult for investigators, I want to thank prosecutors and investigators for their hard work.”

– David Rausch, TBI Director

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nina Seiler.
