Madison County leaders meet to finalize FY26 budget

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Madison County Budget Committee met Tuesday to finalize the fiscal year 2026 budget.

The budget committee was held at the Madison County Complex Building Tuesday morning and several agenda items were open for discussion including the firefighter freedom festival and the rabies control building.

“We had some late entries like rabies control. They’re going to be building a new building. We had to vote on the funding to complete that; they needed more money. We had other amendments that were sent in like, say the school system. They had some year-end budget amendments just to kind of clean up their overall budget, just to make sure that they’re in line with the state and the government,” said Marcus Love, appointed budget committee member.

The committee approved $12,000 for the annual Firefighters Freedom Festival and donated $5,000 toward this year’s State Games.

“This is a statewide event, and what we’re trying to do is get our foot in the door and host some games here. We’ve got a lot of–the park director, he spoke, trying to do a lot of improvement to the county parks. So, that’s one of the things we did want to help with that because the state games are put on by donations,” said Love.

The budget committee also finalized the capital budget for the fire department’s new equipment.

Other amendments included year-end clean ups and budget alignments.

“With the highway department, there’s going to be a lot of road pavings in the county. People may not be accustomed to that. It’s going to be a great deal of that taking place. The police presence with the sheriff’s department, not JPD, the sheriff’s department is going to be more present because they’re going to be bringing on new people,” said Love.

The Madison County Fiscal Year 2026 Budget has been finalized with the exception of two grant allocations for the Parks & Recreation Department.
