Henderson County commissioners vote on first reading of proposed budget

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Henderson County leaders met Tuesday evening for a special called meeting to go over several items on their agenda.

One of which was voting on the new fiscal year budget on the first reading.

Before the vote, there was discussion on funding for the Henderson County Highway Department. A motion was made to raise property taxes 10 cents to fund the department’s operational expenses for the upcoming fiscal year.

The motion failed in and 8 to 5 vote as commissioners voted not raise property taxes. Commissioners say they will look at other options to fund the highway department.

The vote to approve the budget passed on the first reading. The second reading of the budget will be June 24.
