Inaugural State Games of Tennessee kicks off in Jackson Friday

JACKSON, Tenn. — Are you ready to cheer on your fellow Tennesseans? It’s almost time for the State Games of Tennessee.

The first annual State Games of Tennessee, hosted in Jackson, is a multi-sport event modeled after the Olympic Games.

Sports range from pickleball and mountain biking to horseshoes and wedge, and this event is for all ages!

“We have a 6-year-old competing and we also have a 74-year-old-competing. And so, it really is for everybody to be a part of, but we want our Jackson and regional community to come and support it and be a part of the first games here in Jackson,” said Lindsay Dawkins-Moon, chief of staff for the Greater Jackson Chamber.

The games will kick off with an opening ceremony Friday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty Tech High School gymnasium. There will be several guest speakers and the lighting of the Olympic torch.

“We love that you can go to the different sports, cheer them on as they’re happening. This weekend, we have baseball and softball, track and field, and volleyball. And then, we also still have sports for the next weekend as well, and sign ups are still available. People can still play in cornhole or our 5K run, our trail run,” said Lindsay.

There will be bronze, silver and gold medals presented to the game winners.

“In some sports, our medalists, they get the opportunity to advance and participate at the State Games of America, which is held every two years for all of the states who participate in state games, and so you can compete, represent your state at the national level,” said Lindsay.
