Morning wreck halts traffic in downtown Jackson
UPDATE FROM THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT:
[Jackson, TN] – On June 11, 2025, approximately 12:47 AM, officers responded to a report of a crash involving a single tractor trailer that lost control of its load and overturned. During the accident, two utility poles were struck, and a large amount of debris was scattered, resulting in multiple downed power lines across S. Highland Ave, causing significant blockage.
JEA, JFD, EMS, and the Street Department all responded to the scene. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported for the driver. Crews are continuing to work on clearing the wreckage, completing repairs, and reopening the roadway. However, a lengthy road closure should be expected.
JACKSON, Tenn. — An early morning wreck affected traffic in Jackson for many hours.
Not long after midnight, an 18 wheeler carrying crushed scrap cars overturned on Highland Avenue. This happened right at the traffic light near the Jackson Fire Department.
The traffic light was knocked over along with multiple utility poles, and the road was closed for many hours, resulting in a traffic issue.
The closure was placed right at the entrance of the fairgrounds and the opposite side was closed at the post office. Traffic was rerouted to go through the fairgrounds’ parking lot.
Many people were affected by these closures as they made their morning commute either into Jackson coming north, or out of Jackson heading south.
Our crew arrived on the scene just after 4 a.m. There was a hazmat truck in the area of the crash, however it left just after 5 a.m.
We reached out to the Jackson Police Department to try and learn the cause of the wreck, how many vehicles were involved, and the extent of the damage. However, we were told no additional details were available.
From my perspective, the 18 wheeler was the only vehicle and the driver seemed okay. He was picked up by another trucker just before 7 a.m.
We were able to speak with the Jackson Energy Authority, who said that there were no power problems resulting from this issue.
