Weather dampens the day for Hwy 70 Yard Sale shoppers, vendors
CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. — Highway 70 received several rounds of storms Thursday night and into Friday morning.
Unfortunately for shoppers that were looking to attend the annual yard sale, the rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
After Thursday’s storms of high winds and heavy rain, vendors are out attempting to salvage their inventory.
Along Highway 70, several sellers were prepared for the rain with tarps and rain-gear, but those who weren’t lost a significant amount of items.
“Well, luckily we had already covered up and left and on our way home, so we didn’t experience the weather,” said Luann Brewer, vendor.
“We were expecting rain, but not a storm of this magnitude,” added vendor Lakeisha Hopson.
Items left out overnight were completely drenched, and several tents have been knocked over and damaged.
“Oh no, mine, it’s gone, but it’s okay because it was just, you know, random yard sale things that you kind of just wanted to declutter and get out of your house,” Hopson said. “What I can save, I’m probably going to stop at Goodwill and drop it off, but the rest is probably trash.”
Several vendors have been attending this yard sale for many years and say this was the first storm they’ve encountered.
“I’ve been doing this for about 10 years, and this is the first time this has ever happened,” Brewer said.
“Usually it rains about Saturday as we’re putting the last box back into the truck,” Hopson said.
Many vendors are packing up and leaving for the weekend. But don’t worry, you can always look forward to seeing them next year.
