Madison County Commissioners finalize FY25-26 budget

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Madison County’s Board of Commissioners sat down to discuss finalizing the upcoming fiscal year budget.

Madison County’s Commission Chair, Mike Taylor, says it was smooth sailing and new capital projects are also on the way.

“Nothing changed on the property tax everything’s gonna be the same. Like I said, we have no tax increase of any kind this year and we’re excited about that for the residents of madison county,” said Taylor.

Madison County’s budget was adopted by county commissioners and will be sent to the state for approval. There were no tax raises, even with a healthy fund balance and new raises.

“We were able to take care of the health increases for the employees. We were also able to give a 5% raise to the county employees, and we were able to fund a lot of capital projects within the county–without doing a tax increase–and we’re very pleased with the way it turned out,” said Taylor.

The fire department will receive a new truck and improvements to their department. The sheriff’s department and school board will also receive new vehicles. This is just a few of the new improvements made in the county.

“There’s a lot of capital projects going on right now and capital needs for the county, but like I said we’ve been able to handle all of those without a tax increase,” said Taylor.

Planning for this year’s budget has led commissioners to consider changes to make for the 2026-27 budget.

“[We] Tried to approve what we could within our means and tried to do the best we can for our employees this year. [The] Budgeting process went well, there’s always things we can look back and improve on and we’re gonna work on that throughout the year–this upcoming year for next year’s budget,” said Taylor.

To decide this year’s fiscal year budget, they looked through each department’s budget.
