Heavy rain collapses road in Hardeman County, several others affected

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. — Early morning storms affected quite a few roadways across West Tennessee.

Early Thursday morning, heavy rains and wind affected many different areas, and a lot of the roads in Hardeman County saw that.

Specifically on Somerville Road, both of the lanes are washed out, and completely fell into a hole which created a giant mess.

We also got reports of other roadways that were affected. Peavine Road also, we were told, was washing away.

Hornsby Loop, Highway 18 just north of the city limits of Bolivar, Clifft Road, Mt. Comfort Drive near Highway 138, and also Vildo Road near Newsome Road — most of those were affected by trees that had fallen over the roadways.

When we visited Somerville Road, we passed by a few of those previously mentioned areas, and you could see the trees had been cut up and pushed to the side so that traffic could move through freely. That seemed to have been done fairly quickly Thursday morning.

Somerville Road, on the other hand, does not look like it is going to be fixed anytime soon.

If you have to come through Somerville Road for any reason, you are going to have to find an alternate route for the foreseeable future, as there is a lot of damage and a big chunk of this road is gone.

The timeline for when this road will be fixed is undetermined at the time of this report.
