Heat Advisory Extended To Friday

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

Heat Advisory Update:

Confidence in dangerous Heat Index values are increasing beyond Tuesday, prompting NWS Memphis to extend the Heat Advisory all the way to 9:00 PM Friday. During that time, we can expect to see little overnight relief from the heat and during the day the Heat Index may feel as high as 109.

Sun Heat

Tuesday:

More of the same can be expected on Tuesday. Temperatures will be in the mid-90s, with Heat Index values reaching up to 106. A stray shower or storm may provide some short term relief, but I would expect anything that pops to be very short-lived and quickly give way to intense heat again.

Wednesday:

Wednesday appears to be the nastiest day of the heat wave so far. The daytime high could reach as high as 97 in some places, which would mean Heat Index values could toe the line of an upgrade to an Extreme Heat Warning. The threshold for such a warning is a Heat Index at or above 110 degrees. Right now, the forecast Heat Index for Wednesday is 109.

Sun Heat

Thursday-Friday:

The Bermuda high pressure system will begin to move back offshore to the east toward Bermuda as the heat dome shows its first signs of weakening late-week. Temperatures will still be in the mid to low 90s and Heat Index values will still likely be at or above Heat Advisory threshold.
