Comfort Keepers spreads awareness on ups and downs of caregiving

JACKSON, Tenn. — Comfort Keepers of Jackson hosted a preview screening of a caregiving documentary.

This two hour documentary sheds light on the history, challenges and triumphs of caregiving in the U.S. The film will also premiere tonight at 8 p.m. on PBS.

Local caregivers and community leaders also gathered for a panel discussion, where they shared inspiring stories and what it means to make a difference.

“You’ve got to be an advocate. If you’re not an advocate for the people you take care of, they can get lost in the shuffle too. So, taking care of yourself, allowing [yourself] to receive help, is the best thing you can do for yourself. Caregiving is hard–it’s exhausting, but it’s so rewarding,” said Amanda Barlow Leitch, West Tennessee regional coordinator for Alzheimer’s TN.
