Rezoning proposals removed from Council’s agenda, Vice Mayor elected
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson City Council held their normal monthly meeting Tuesday morning.
What was previously a highly attended city council meeting turned to the opposite after multiple agenda items were removed — both of these having to do with rezoning.
The first being 191 Vann Drive and the second being the corner of Windy City and McClellan Road. Mayor Scott Conger told us what caused the projects to be removed from the agenda.
“Both property owners and developers in both instances wanted a little bit more time to maybe communicate their plan, I would assume,” Mayor Conger said. “McClellan and Windy City did not give a timeline. They just asked to remove it.”
The other agenda item that was removed was a little bit different.
“Country Club and Vann Drive asked for a month. So technically, because they did give a finite timeline and did ask for a month, we don’t have to send out a public notice. But, we’re going to anyway, understanding that not every resident within 500 feet was here today,” Conger said.
Of course it is unofficial, but those agenda items may be heard in the August meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting Tuesday, Jackson’s Parks and Recreation department was honored. Mayor Conger spoke about the impact that has been made over the last few years.
“We made a conservative effort in investing into our quality of life in our city,” said Conger. “So you can see that going to our parks from improved grass quality, to painting, to new playgrounds, new walking trails. This is just an effort to improve our quality of life.”
There was also an election of a new vice mayor. Council member Marda Wallace was the only one nominated, which was followed by her election.
Vice mayors lead the pre-agenda meetings. They only serve one year terms and council member Johnny Dodd was the previous vice mayor.
