Man Charged with Aggravated Assault after a short standoff with DPD

Joseph Adam Harrell, 40, of Dyersburg, was arrested Sunday afternoon and is charged with aggravated assault and drug charges after a brief standoff with police.

Police received a complaint of a domestic assault and possible kidnapping at Harrell’s home and arrived to find several witnesses and an alleged victim claiming he had held the woman since the previous day and threatened her with a knife and shotgun, according to the police report. Harrell stayed inside his residence and spoke with a DPD officer by phone. He surrendered after about a 10-minute standoff.

The case remains under investigation, and other charges may be pending, according to the police report.
