Hugh Harris Harvey, Sr. was born on November 18, 1931 to Gladys Andrews and Hugh Smith Harvey and died on July 5, 2025 in Jackson, TN.

He is survived by his son Hugh H. Harvey, Jr., and wife, Sue; granddaughters, Dorothy Harvey Rogers and husband, Louis, and Suzanne Harris Harvey; great-grandchildren: Anne Tipton Rogers, Deaton Rogers, and Mary Bright Rogers; sisters-in-law, Anne Pearson Ross and husband Eugene, Nancy Pearson Earnest and husband Robert; and cousin Sandra McDaniel Perkins and husband Bill, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Pearson Harvey, his parents, sister Chloe Harvey Craddock and husband, Roland, brother-in-law Robert D. (Buddy) Pearson, and sisters-in-law Margaret Virginia Burks and Mary Ruth Hundley.

Hugh graduated from North Side High School in 1948 and Union University in 1952 where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged. Hugh returned to Madison County where he taught school for three years before embarking on a farming career for the next 30 years. Hugh sat on numerous boards and committees, including the Madison County Commission, but the one of which he was the most proud was serving 54 years as a member of the Southwest Electric Membership Corporation Board. He was also a member of Harris Grove United Methodist Church.

His family would like to thank his main caregivers Howard, Veronda, and Shea for their help the last three years.

A service to celebrate the life of Hugh Harvey, Sr. will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
