A Couple Rounds of Storms Likely this Weekend, Storms Could Be Strong
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
A cold front to the north is drifting south and will get closer this weekend; that will usher in more showers and storms for many of us. Chances begin to develop Saturday afternoon but will increase in coverage Saturday evening.
More showers and storms are likely on Sunday. Overall the severe weather threat appears to be low this weekend but a gusty lightning storm is two seems possible for some of us. Catch the complete forecast breakdown coming up here.
THIS WEEKEND:
As of now we are expecting some showers and storm chances for both days this weekend. We are likely going to be dry early on Saturday but by the late afternoon and evening hours, storms and showers chances will start. Chances for rain on Sunday are higher due to the fact the showers and storm chances will start earlier in the day on Sunday and the cold front will be a little closer. A severe storm or two cannot be ruled out Saturday evening afternoon but overall the severe threat is low. Storm chances appear to be a little higher and Sunday and we are currently under a level 1/5 (marginal risk) on Sunday but an upgrade to a level 2 seems unlikely at this time. The level one on Saturday is just to the northwest of us but might be extended in the afternoon as the storms develop.
Highs will reach the low 90s with the heat index being near 100° in the afternoon and evening so a shower or two might not be a bad thing if we can keep any gusty wind storms away. Expect a mostly sunny start on Saturday but in general, expect partly cloudy skies and the winds will look to come out of the west-southwest all weekend long. Chances for rain on Saturday right now are 40% and 60% on Sunday. If you have weekend plans just keep an eye on the forecast this weekend and the radar when you will get out and about. Any showers and storms that do develop will produce heavy rain and lightning and possibly some winds gusting up to 50mph. Be safe this weekend!
NEXT WEEK:
More showers and storms are expected during the start of next week. Chances are highest on Monday but drop down a little bit on Tuesday. Most of us will miss out on the rain on Wednesday and Thursday before chances go back we think on Friday. A severe storm or two will be possible but not likely next week. Most of the storms will be heat and humidity driven instead of forced from a weather boundary.
Highs will reach the low 90s to start the week but will warm to the mid 90s by the middle of the week. The heat index will be around 100° to start the week but will warm up into the mid 100s as the week goes on. A heat advisory will be possible in the middle of the week but an excessive heat warning seems unlikely at this time. We are going to see a mix of sun and and clouds each day with clouds being the most prevalent in the afternoon and evening hours. The winds will come out of the southwest or west all week long and should stay light until you are hit by a thunderstorm.
