Language Camp in Jackson aims to improve speech, communication skills

JACKSON, Tenn. — The West Tennessee Hearing and Speech Center has officially kicked off its 2025 Language Camp.

Language Camp is a free summer program targeted for children or individuals with speech delays, language disorders, hearing disorders and or communication difficulties.

While engaging in fun, social experiences with peers of the same age, the camp provides a supportive, interactive environment where children can improve their communication skills.

The camp will run from Monday to Thursday in two different session times: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the second one from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“These are children that either are in speech therapy or are looking for speech therapy options, so we offer an evaluation–if needed. So if the child is currently taking speech in school, or privately, or what have you, then we don’t have to evaluate them, but we also give that as an option,” said Dr. Holly Murphy, executive director for West Tennessee Hearing and Speech Center.

The program is funded by Regions Foundation of Tennessee, Bluecross Blueshield of Tennessee Community Trust and United Way of West Tennessee.
