The proposed budget includes a 4-cent property tax increase to cover rising insurance rates, cost of living raises for county employees and helping to fund local emergency services.

Chester county finance supervisor, Heather Yelverton explains why they need to get a budget passed as soon as possible.

“If we aren’t able to get it passed, the state will come in. Pretty much, they will say ‘Here is what is mandated, here are services that are not mandated. What do you want to cut?’ If you don’t pick and choose what you want to cut they will tell you what you can cut,” said Yelverton.

The proposed budget will be presented at the next chester county commission meeting later this month.
