Day 2 of Meteorology Summer Camp kicks off in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local summer camp group spends the day learning about the science of predicting weather.

The UT Martin Jackson Center and Jackson State Community College teamed up to host day two of their Meteorology Summer Camp.

Attendees learned how clouds form, severe weather awareness and how to pack an emergency bag.

They also got to build a weather ready house out of popsicle sticks that can withstand tornadoes, hail and hurricanes.

“It’s a blast! It’s the most fun I’ve had in my entire year up at campus. It’s looking at them and watching their passion just ignite something in me–that’s nothing I’ve ever felt before,” said Shaley Snider, lecturer with UT Martin.

They will also be holding a Severe Weather Awareness Day on September 27.
