JPD: Officer-involved shooting following road rage incident on 45 Bypass

UPDATE (5:05pm):

The Jackson Police Department has released further details regarding the incident on Old Hickory Blvd. Below is a press release that was shared with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News:

Jackson, TN – On Thursday afternoon, at approximately 3:28 pm, the Jackson Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a road rage incident on the 45 Bypass near Carriage House. The caller, a male motorist, reported that another male driver had pointed a handgun at him while driving.

The victim remained on the line with 911 and provided real-time updates on the suspect’s location, allowing officers to respond quickly. Based on the information provided, officers located and conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle in front of 719 Old Hickory Boulevard.

As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the suspect armed with a handgun. Moments later, officers heard a gunshot from within the suspect vehicle. In response, one officer discharged their service weapon.

The suspect was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, TN and is currently in critical condition.

The officer involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave as standard procedure during the course of this investigation.

At the request of District Attorney Jody Pickens, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is now leading the investigation into this incident. All further inquiries should be directed to the TBI.

JPD responds to shots fired on Old Hickory Blvd

WEST JACKSON, Tenn. .- Jackson Police Department has closed a portion of Old Hickory Boulevard due to an “active incident”.  According to JPD, “Old Hickory Blvd is temporarily closed West to Heritage Square due to an active incident until further notice. Please find an alternate route.”

JPD said that officers responded to a shots fired call in the area.

Several tipsters alerted us to the large police presence in the area. When our crews arrived on the scene, they saw multiple ambulances present. Our team said they witnessed a Med Evac helicopter take off around the same time they arrived on scene.

Our crew also reports they have seen a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) vehicle arrive on the scene.

Our team said there are multiple evidence markers in the area. It is unclear at this time what has taken place.
