Remaining Quite Hot, Storm Chances Back, EXTREME Heat Next Week!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
We are tracking a few storms tonight in our northern counties in West Tennessee. These storms are not severe but are producing heavy rain, lightning, maybe some small hail and 30 MPH winds. The are very slowly moving to the east tonight. There is a 40% chance for pop up showers & storms across West Tennessee on Friday. The storms are unlikely to become severe but heavy rain and lightning will be possible with these in the afternoon and evening hours! It will be hot again on Friday but the heat index should stay below 105° most of the day so a heat advisory seems unlikely for the majority of us. Next week though, the heat will be returning with a vengeance. Catch the full forecast information coming up right here.

THIS WEEK:
Thursday was even hotter than Wednesday for many of us as Thursday looks to be the hottest day on the week for most of us. Even hotter weather is expected through by the middle of next week. We saw mostly sunny skies to start the day but clouds moved in some some this evening as a cold front to the north is getting a little closer. Although a shower or storm will be possible Thursday evening, most of us will miss out. The best chance for these evening or early nighttime showers and storms will be in our northern counties. A couple strong wind storms will be possible but overall our severe weather threat looks low tonight. Keep those AC units pumping as overnight lows will only drop down to the mid 70s during the middle and end of the week.

Some pop up showers and storms will continue on Friday with chances going back up t0 40% as another weak stalled out front should sit just to the north of us or even drift through. The front will not stick around long but will linger long enough for some afternoon and evening pop ups. There will be more clouds on Friday and a light breeze out of the south. Highs will still each up to around 93° but might be a little too cool for a heat advisory on Friday.

THIS WEEKEND:
The weather this weekend will be very similar to the weather we are going to have as we finish the work week. That means highs will stay in the low 90s with a heat index in the low 100s. Pop up showers and storm chances are also expected this weekend with chances at 40% on Saturday and 20-30% on Sunday. Like last weekend though, do not cancel your outdoor plans, just be weather aware and make sure you find shelter if a storm is heading to your area. The storms this weekend are unlikely to be severe but they could produce some brief heavy rain as well as some lightning. Morning lows will fall to the low to mid 70s. We could be put under a level 1 (marginal risk) for severe storms on Saturday but an upgrade to a level 2 seems unlikely for not only the rest of the week, but for the weekend as well. The winds will come out of the south or southwest this weekend and expect partly cloudy skies.

NEXT WEEK:
Showers and storm chances will be low for the first half of next week but the heat and humidity will be in full force. Highs next week are forecast to reach the upper 90s with a heat index up to or greater than 110°. A heat advisory is coming for sure and possibly our first excessive heat warnings of the summer. To get an excessive heat warning, the heat index needs to be above 110° and around 115° which seems possible at this time from Tuesday through Thursday. Overnight lows will only fall to the mid to upper 70s for most of next week as well. We are expecting mostly sunny skies and rain chances next week appear to be in the 10-20% chance is all each day. Please be prepared for the hottest weather of the summer so far for next week!
