Hub City business temporarily closes after driver crashes into front of building

JACKSON, Tenn. — A staple business in the Hub City shares more about the moment a car crashed into their building Thursday morning.

“Luckily, nobody was here–no customers. We don’t open until 10:30 and so this happened at 9:54 this morning,” said Tiffany Wilkinson, owner.

Earlier Thursday, a vehicle crashed into the doors at Wilk’s Dugout on Union University Drive.

Here’s a look at security footage from the store’s front door camera.

A patron at the salon adjacent to the sports store described the sound of the collision similar to that of an earthquake.

The security company that alerted store owner Tiffany Wilkinson does not believe the crash was intentional. The cause of the crash is currently unknown.

Cleanup had already started by the time we arrived at the location this morning.

“Yeah, both of our doors are done, we might have a little structural damage around the frame of the door, but they are supposed to get that fixed today so hopefully, we’ll be back open for business tomorrow on Friday,” said Wilkinson.

Contractors were also on site estimating what would need to be done to fully repair the storefront.

Somehow, damage to the building was minimal, only to the area surrounding the doorframe. The plan is to put in new doors as of Thursday, but only one will have glass in it. The other will be paneled until further notice.

Wilk’s Dugout has been a sports merchandise staple in the Hub City since 1987.
