STAR Center hosts music therapy camp

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local center hosts aspiring musicians of all genres with a special camp.

Hub City residents gathered for the STAR Center’s School of RockSTARS Music Therapy Camp event.

The event was open to high school students and young adult with disabilities. Attendees had the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar, bass, piano and even the drums.

Music therapists were also there to adjust the campers instruments to match their preferred music.

“I originally went to school for music performance, but I really fell into music therapy because I love how it meets getting to use music in my professional life with the needs of other people and getting to help other people with music,” said Will Whetzels, music therapist with the STAR Center.

This was the STAR Center’s 2nd year hosting the event and they plan to continue in 2026.
