Mental health expert talks addiction in parents, families

According to a recent study, about 1 in 4 U.S. children–nearly 19 million–have at least one parent suffering with substance use disorder.

This includes parents who misuse alcohol, marijuana, prescription opioids or illegal drugs.

The U.S. has an addiction problem that spans decades and countless attempts to regulate, legislate and incarcerate have done little to reduce addiction.

Mental health expert Matthew ‘Whiz’ Buckley, a decorated Navy TOPGUN graduate, retired F/A-18 fighter pilot, and founder of the No Fallen Heroes Foundation, suffered for many years with addiction due to trauma and credits Ibogaine to finally achieving true healing.

“Addiction interrupters is not a magic cure. What it’s gonna do is reset your brain, your body and your soul and give you a clean piece of paper. What you do with that paper, when you come home, is up to you,” said Buckley.

There’s ongoing research, including a $50 million allocation in Texas for clinical trials, to develop FDA-approved treatments based on Ibogaine, particularly for opioid use disorder.
