5-year-old girl drowns in Trenton, police confirm
TRENTON, Tenn. — A 5-year-old child has tragically passed away in Trenton after drowning in a neighbor’s pool, according to police.
Just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, police received a call about a 5-year-old autistic girl missing from her home in the 100 block of Lyndale Street.
Trenton Police Chief Bill Cusson says officers arrived shortly after and began canvassing the neighborhood to locate the child.
According to Cusson, while canvassing the neighborhood, an officer looked across the field and saw a black fence with a gap in it at a home in the 100 block of Adams Street. Cusson said the officer could see the home had a pool, and the owner of the home was sitting outside having coffee.
“He [the officer] called out to him and said they were searching for a 5-year-old that was missing and he noticed they had a pool,” said Cusson.
The officer and homeowner met at the home’s pool where the officer discovered the child at the bottom of the pool. The officer then called across the radio to notify others of his location before jumping in to get the child out.
According to Cusson, another officer arrived and started performing CPR once she was taken out of the pool. The child was then transported to the Milan Emergency Room where she was pronounced dead.
Police say this investigation remains ongoing.
