Madison County parks receive community-driven upgrades

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — If you haven’t noticed, local parks are seeing some changes!

We took a closer look at the exciting updates and construction projects happening in parks across Madison County.

All new paving and painted parking spaces are complete throughout Pope and Pugh Bourne Park.

New pavilions are in place to provide shade and a picnic area with tables for families.

And stay tuned for the splash pad! Although still in progress, this will be right at the front of Pugh Bourne park next spring.

“While we wanted to have it done this year. We just couldn’t squeeze it in,” said Matthew Martin, executive director for Madison County Parks.

Meanwhile, Beech Bluff Recreation Center has renovations complete and in the works.

“We’ve redone the gym. A new playground coming. A new pavilion is already done out there. We’re having a big send off for that facility Saturday, called Duck Days,” said Martin.

You’ll also see a new ADA accessible playground at Eva Mae Greer and Van Lawson Talley Park this fall.

The final piece is Godwin Park.

“We’ll be doing paving of that road and a new pavilion and restroom out there as well,” said Martin.

A new playground was unveiled there, last spring.

“Everything is about our community and what they say they wanted,” said Martin.

The suggestions were incorporated into the grant from community input meetings. The projects are funded through a 50/50 grant between the ‘Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’ and county commissioners.
