Single mom surprised with vehicle after graduating recovery program
DECATURVILLE, Tenn. — We bring you an inspiring story from Decaturville about a single mother who has overcome incredible odds.
It was a heartwarming moment.
One Waverly woman and single mother of two has faced tough times without a vehicle — juggling online classes and taking care of her children — all while completing a substance abuse recovery program.
Thanks to a Court Appointed Special Advocate and volunteer, she is getting a vehicle — a surprise that will transform her family’s life.
It happened Thursday morning in Decaturville after she graduated from a recovery program through the 24th Judicial District.
“She has done everything right,” said Pamela Bartholomew-Gardner, Executive Director of Decatur County CASA. “She has passed every single drug test, goes to every single class, she has worked full-time jobs while trying to take care of her children.”
Without a vehicle, getting to work and taking her kids to school has been a daily struggle. The new ride means new opportunities and a fresh start.
She tells us this car means everything, and now she can take her daughter to pre-school.
“Our advocate just generously, just lovingly decided to give a car that belonged to their mother,” Bartholomew-Gardner said. “Their mother just recently passed away. What a beautiful way to honor their mom’s memory, by giving a car to a mother in need.”
If you are wondering where she’s headed off to first, she said she’s taking her daughter to the splash pad!
A very big congratulations for such resilience.
Joining supporters, friends, and advocates were Judge Brent Bradberry and Senator Ed Jackson, who came to celebrate the special moment.
