Dangerous Heat Returns After Mild Weekend

We have several days of dangerous heat coming into West Tennessee to start the week. Unfortunately, there is little hope of any relief in the form of rain or cloud cover over the next several days. Forecasts are trending toward a milder start to August.

Sun Heat

Monday:

A very busy Weather Alert Summary headlines the start to the week as a Heat Advisory, Extreme Heat Watch, and Extreme Heat Warning are all in effect for at least portions of West Tennessee. Temperatures will climb into the upper-90s today with cloud cover breaking by the afternoon. Heat Index values will soar well into the 110s.

Sun Heat

Tuesday:

Another scorcher like Monday, but with higher temperatures. Currently, Tuesday’s forecast high is 99 degrees which would be the highest recorded temperature so far this year. Again, there is little help in the forecast from rain or cloud cover, so avoid being outdoors for long periods of time.

Wednesday:

Wednesday could likely have the highest Heat Index value of 2025 so far. Forecast estimates a Heat Index of 115 degrees for Wednesday. Fortunately for some, Wednesday has a slightly elevated chance for scattered showers in the afternoon, but not everyone will see relief.

Thursday:

Showers and storms return to the forecast for Thursday. These storms will move through during the early afternoon which will bring an abrupt end to the current heat wave. Also, a cold front will reinforce the area with a cooler air mass. After Thursday, daytime high temperatures will be down to the 80s.

Final Thoughts:

Avoid long-term exposure to the elements this week. Whether you are used to the heat or not, these temperatures can cause real harm to the human body in little to no time at all. If you have to be outdoors for an extended period, it is recommended that you keep a filled water bottle and sip on it throughout your time outside. Stay safe in this heat.
