Sheriff reports death of jail inmate

FROM THE GIBSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

Statement from Sheriff Paul Thomas

Today, July 31, just before 11:00 a.m. a 65 year old male inmate at the Gibson County Correctional Complex was discovered unresponsive in his bunk.

Life saving measures were initiated by Correctional staff and continued until paramedics arrived and took over.

The male was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name is being withheld pending notification of the family.

The body will be sent to Memphis for an autopsy and no foul play is suspected.

This will remain an ongoing investigation.
