Dedication held for new Christine Chatman historical marker in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — One influential woman is honored with a special dedication.

Residents gathered at the Soul Collective in downtown Jackson to watch the unveiling of the new Christine Chatman historical marker.

The dedication was sponsored by the Jazz Foundation of West Tennessee and the City of Jackson.

Ritchie Coleman with the Jazz Foundation of West Tennessee spoke at the unveiling, sharing why honoring her legacy in this way was important.

“It’s been amazing that, as I’ve talked to my family members from all over the country, this has been as if she’s with me saying ‘tell my story right.’ Because there is so much misinformation about her life and what happened that we want to make sure we get it corrected,” said Coleman.

The event was free and open to the public.
