Circles of Hope Telethon returning to help the fight against child abuse

JACKSON, Tenn. — A long-standing West Tennessee tradition is returning to bring together community leaders, volunteers and donors who play a vital role in the fight against child abuse.

For more than four decades, a local nonprofit has been committed to serving children and families across our area.

Sunday, August 17, the Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse will host the 42nd annual Circles of Hope Telethon.

The telethon helps raise critical funds in the fight against child abuse. Some of those critical funds are trauma-informed care including therapy, forensic interviews and caregiver support, as well food, clothing, medical assistance, and school supplies to children who are victims.

Donations raised during the broadcast directly support these services and are offered to families at no cost.

According to the Carl Perkins Center, every 47 seconds a child is abused or neglected in the U.S.

“Especially with children, they are having to worry about the fear of threats of themselves or those who they love from the offender,” said Molly Connor, Events/Marketing Coordinator for the Carl Perkins Center.

The afternoon will be an evening of storytelling, local talent and inspiring moments. You can hear success stories and even witness a dedicated team of volunteers taking pledges.

If you cannot make it to the telethon at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, there are still ways you can make a difference in a child’s life. One-time donations can be made on online — or to tune into WBBJ 7 from 1-6 p.m. Sunday to catch the broadcast live.
