You plan, you pay: More of America’s younger singles are seeking to break tradition, survey reveals

JACKSON, Tenn. — Is there a new era of dating? America’s younger singles are banking on love in more ways than one, as traditional financial expectations may be losing ground.

A new survey of 2,000 singles or casual daters, split evenly by generation and region, revealed that 42% of Baby Boomers and 46% of Gen X still abide by tradition and believe the man should pay for a date.

However, 36% of Gen Z share the same sentiment, they’re more likely than any other generation to say that whoever plans or schedules the date should pay.

Former bachelorette star and financial expert, Jason Tartick, talks tips for financial transparency in dating.

“The biggest red flags out there are lying about your financial information, and or weaponizing, shaming, or blaming someone that is becoming vulnerable with you,” said Tartick.

While generations may have a different point of view on financial dating etiquette, many can agree that transparency plays a role in planning.
