Move-in day brings new students to Union University
JACKSON, Tenn. — New beginnings for one university as freshman move in to their new home.
It is move in day for new students at Union University, and while this is an emotional day, it can also be very tiring and stressful for freshmen and parents — but not at Union, and there is a very big reason for that.
“We have a tremendous number of current students, faculty, and staff that are standing around waiting to meet them and waiting to move their things into their student apartments,” said Union University Associate VP for University Communications, Tim Ellsworth.
This is an exciting day that sets the tone for not just the school year, but your entire college career here on campus. It really exemplifies what Union is all about.
“We are a community that is people-focused. We care about them,” Ellsworth said. “I think it puts parents’ minds at ease that their students are in an environment that is going to take care of them and wants to encourage them and nurture them and see them grow as people.”
This is not the only day that is filled with excitement and fun. There is going to be plenty more of this throughout the week ahead of classes.
“Today kicks off Welcome Week, which is the schedule of activities, not just moving in, but a variety of activities to introduce them to each other, to get them familiar with the campus and the processes, and things like that. So they have a full schedule of activities for the next few days,” said Ellsworth.
The sort of welcome that is given and received at Union for the first day of college is really only something you can get our our small universities here in West Tennessee.
There were hundreds of people ready to lend a helping hand beginning early Thursday morning.
