Local FFA student selected as national finalist for award

SCOTTS HILL, Tenn. — A local high school graduate is one in a million–literally.

Hunter Sims, a graduate of Scotts Hill High School and a member of their Future Farmers of America chapter, has been named a national finalist for the 2025 Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication Proficiency Award.

He’s one out of more than 1 million students nationwide that participated in the competitions, and part of nearly 9,500 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, and he was selected to compete.

Only four FFA members nationwide are selected as national finalists in each agricultural proficiency award area.

“I’ve been very blessed. I’ve had so many opportunities through FFA and that’s been one of the biggest things for me is how many opportunities FFA has presented me with. And how many new people I’ve got to meet, and it’s just amazing the people you get to be around,” said Sims.

Students compete in areas ranging from agricultural communications to wildlife management.

Agricultural proficiency awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences, have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers.
