UTM’s ROTC Program Closure Delayed

MARTIN, Tenn.- Good news for the ROTC program at UT-Martin as the program’s closure has been delayed. Now several students will be able to stay in school because of the Army’s change of heart. “I am on an ROTC scholarship and thought I would have to leave school but we got the news today that we’re staying open,” Cadet Hunter Goree said, who had began making plans to transfer. Senator Lamar Alexander announced Wednesday the delay will give the program time to improve to meet the Army’s current needs. According to instructors of the program, the number of cadets is increasing and they are sure they can meet the qualifications once they are set by the army. “This program is very important to students,” Lt. Colonel Johnson said. “And now they can finish here.” This will also be the case for East Tennessee State University and Tennessee Tech as well.
