Local animal shelter seeks community’s help amid possible closure
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — A local animal shelter asks for the communities help in keeping its doors open.
Frances Halbrook Hensley Animal Shelter in Lexington is facing possible closure with fewer regular donors and economic changes.
In addition, their biggest annual fundraising event, the Mutt Strutt and Pawpalooza, was rained out in May with only a small crowd in attendance.
While the community continues to support the shelter, the cost of caring for the animals and the air conditioning going out has the shelter struggling to keep up.
“Money doesn’t stretch as far as it used to, and we’re having trouble getting monthly donors. We need people to regularly donate, so that we can buy supplies, provide care for the animal, and essentially keep our doors open, so that we can still function in the community,” said Katherine Carmody, executive director for Frances Halbrook Hensley Animal Shelter.
